Full Article

(ALBUQUERQUE)---Attorney General Gary King meets Sunday in Idaho with the Mexican federal Attorney General, 24 Mexican state Attorneys General and fellow members of the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) to discuss law enforcement issues affecting the U.S. and Mexico.

"This is the opening day of the summer CWAG meeting and it is significant that we begin by continuing our long partnership with Mexico," says Attorney General King. "Individually and as a group, state Attorneys General have been providing technical assistance and training to prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in Mexico as the country transitions to a judicial system much like ours in the United States."

Attorney General King recently met with Mexican and Italian prosecutors in Rome, Italy to discuss organized crime fighting efforts and how they could be applied in U.S. border states like New Mexico. The Attorney General expects to continue those discussions with Mexican officials during the CWAG gathering.

Substance abuse, consumer protection, natural resource issues and Indian gaming are also on the agenda for discussion during the four day meeting. Nearly 500 people, including 16 state Attorneys General are expected to attend.
